On June 24, Zoox, Amazon’s autonomous vehicle company, unveiled an upgraded version of its Robotaxi. The new model retains its signature boxy shape, steering-wheel-free design, bidirectional driving capability, four-wheel steering system, and a four-passenger “face-to-face” seating layout, with a top speed of approximately 121 km/h (75 mph). This upgrade focuses on high-frequency operational needs, incorporating numerous refinements based on passenger feedback. Seats and headrests feature additional padding and revised contours for improved ergonomic comfort. The interior adopts brighter color schemes—aloe green seats paired with stone-gray flooring and trim—to create a calming atmosphere and enhance visibility of personal items. Wireless charging pads now include recessed grooves to prevent phones from sliding, cup holders have been enlarged, and the touchscreen has been repositioned to a more prominent location. Externally, bidirectional reflective elements have been reconfigured for greater visibility. New speakers and microphones have been added to the door interaction zones, enabling two-way communication between passengers, other road users, and Zoox support teams or emergency responders. The vehicle continues to be equipped with 40 perception sensors—including cameras, radar, lidar, and infrared sensors—for comprehensive environmental awareness. This update prepares Zoox for the planned launch of commercial operations later this year.
