On July 2, 2026, during the 2026 Shanghai International Low-Carbon Smart Mobility Exhibition, the forum titled "Zero-Carbon Mobility: Vehicle-to-Grid Integration" was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Organized by Shanghai International Exhibition (Group) Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Motor Show Management Co., Ltd., co-organized by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), and hosted by the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA), the forum brought together industry leaders to discuss key topics including scalable pathways for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration, technological innovation, industrial ecosystem restructuring, and overseas compliance. The organizers highlighted that China currently leads globally in both new energy vehicle (NEV) ownership and charging infrastructure deployment. With onboard traction batteries forming a vast mobile energy storage resource, V2G has emerged as a critical link connecting transportation and next-generation power systems—and is now at a pivotal window for industrial-scale development. The forum gathered representatives from automotive OEMs, charging operators, energy and power sectors, research institutions, and testing and certification bodies. Wang Lei, Deputy Secretary-General of EVCIPA, moderated the event and emphasized that V2G integration is essential not only for achieving zero-carbon mobility but also for avoiding excessive competition ("involution") within the industry. Gu Chunting, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade, noted that the exhibition adopts an integrated model combining exhibitions with forums to facilitate resource sharing. Aligning with the "15th Five-Year Plan" (2026–2030) target for V2G development by 2030, he called on the industry to jointly accelerate the large-scale and market-driven advancement of V2G. Yang Zhongping, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAM, stated that while China already possesses the foundational conditions for commercializing V2G, challenges remain—including fragmented standards, insufficient data interoperability, and a lack of viable business models. He recommended strengthening cross-sector technological collaboration, unifying standardization frameworks, and deepening integration across industries. Liu Yun, Assistant Vice President of NIO, introduced the company’s integrated solution offering charging, battery swapping, and upgrade capabilities, along with multiple V2G pilot projects. Xie Huan, a researcher from Tsinghua University, analyzed the impact of growing renewable energy capacity on power systems and proposed that distributed vehicle-based energy storage will become the backbone of V2G. Ding Cheng, Deputy General Manager of Geely Haohan Energy, shared the company’s practices in building intelligent energy replenishment systems and virtual power plants. Chen Mingjun, General Manager of KEMAIS, presented microgrid applications such as residential V2G and solar-storage-charging stations, alongside plans to deploy 10,000 V2G charging piles within three years. Kang Zhenhua, Director of Charging Business at AITO (Seres), proposed developing an “Energy Replenishment Brain” to optimize user charging experiences through intelligent decision-making and to enhance synergy between autonomous driving and energy replenishment. Tong Jun, Vice President of TELD, pointed out persistent industry pain points such as unclear battery warranty responsibilities and data silos, urging automakers to make V2G a standard feature and establish supporting mechanisms. Dong Sipeng, Head of Greater China at TÜV Rheinland, outlined compliance challenges and evolving EU regulatory trends facing V2G equipment exports. Wang Chuanyun, Co-founder of Powerland, introduced the company’s high-efficiency bidirectional topology technology, while Tang Huayin, Product Lead for EV Platforms at Li Auto, shared updates on ultra-fast charging network deployment and innovations like automated charging robots. The forum concluded that with the "15th Five-Year Plan" approaching, V2G integration has entered a critical phase for large-scale implementation. Achieving this will require full-industry collaboration to close the commercial loop across vehicles, charging infrastructure, and the grid—thereby driving green transformation in transport energy and supporting high-quality development of the automotive industry.
