LG Energy Solution has begun producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells for energy storage systems (ESS) at its Tennessee plant, a joint venture with General Motors. In March this year, the company announced an investment of KRW 106.1 billion (approximately USD 70 million) to convert part of the facility’s electric vehicle battery production line to ESS battery production, with related manufacturing commencing in the second quarter.
