Recently, the domestic new energy vehicle (NEV) market has seen a significant rise in penetration, leaving internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles struggling in both the new and used car markets. Faced with mounting inventory pressures, some used-car dealers have taken to online platforms to collectively voice their stance, arguing that ICE vehicles offer better value for money and promoting claims such as “After driving a NEV for four years, I switched back to an ICE vehicle,” highlighting issues like range anxiety and high insurance costs associated with NEVs. However, users who have experience driving ICE vehicles, extended-range electric vehicles, and battery electric vehicles alike report that once accustomed to NEVs, it becomes difficult to readjust to similarly priced ICE models. NEVs excel notably in initial acceleration response, smoothness, cabin quietness, ride comfort, advanced driver-assistance systems, and intelligent cockpit features. In contrast, ICE vehicles show a clear gap in power delivery responsiveness and overall driving experience. Even in car rental scenarios, some customers prefer higher-priced NEV models due to their more intuitive handling. Moreover, while some NEV owners express regret, it typically stems from not opting for higher-trim or newer NEV models—not from nostalgia for ICE vehicles. As technology rapidly evolves—with innovations such as larger-capacity batteries, ultra-fast charging, 800V high-voltage platforms, and advanced chassis systems continually being introduced—consumer preference for and reliance on NEVs are further reinforced.
