On July 10, Toyota filed a trademark application for "Camry Apex" with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The application is currently pending review. This move may signal Toyota's intention to launch a sportier variant of the Camry. Previously, Toyota offered an Apex Edition for the 2021–2022 Corolla, limited to 6,000 units—120 of which were equipped with a six-speed manual transmission. That version did not feature engine performance upgrades; instead, it enhanced handling through model-specific coil springs that lowered the ride height, retuned shock absorbers, new bump stops, and a unique electric power steering system, along with a stainless steel rear exhaust section. If the Camry Apex follows a similar approach, it is expected to retain the current hybrid powertrain—delivering 232 horsepower in all-wheel-drive configurations and 225 horsepower in front-wheel-drive models—with sport-oriented enhancements focused primarily on exterior styling and chassis tuning. Toyota previously showcased a more aggressively styled Camry prototype at the 2023 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Some analysts suggest that a TRD or Gazoo Racing version utilizing the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid’s powertrain could prove even more appealing to consumers and serve as a successor to the discontinued V6-powered Camry. While a trademark filing does not guarantee production, the combination of this application and Toyota’s prior concept display suggests that a sporty Camry variant could indeed reach production.
