Spy Shots Reveal BMW's All-Electric i3 Touring—High-Performance Quad-Motor Variant Expected

The all-new BMW i3 Touring, an electric estate variant of the Neue Klasse family, has been revealed in clear spy photos showing its complete silhouette for the first time. Based on the all-electric 3 Series sedan unveiled earlier this year, the i3 Touring retains a sleek profile without appearing bulky despite its practical cargo capacity. The character line along the body rises subtly from the rear doors toward the D-pillar, visually shrinking the rear side windows and lowering the roofline—but the actual roof contour remains relatively flat, suggesting minimal compromise to boot space. Built on BMW’s dedicated Neue Klasse EV architecture, the i3 Touring shares its platform with the i3 sedan. Meanwhile, a combustion-engine-powered 3 Series Touring is also under development, set to use an upgraded version of the current 3 Series’ CLAR platform. Inside, the i3 Touring will feature BMW’s Panoramic iDrive system, highlighted by a wide digital display spanning the base of the windshield across the dashboard. Powertrain details are expected to mirror those of the i3 sedan. The confirmed i3 50 xDrive variant uses dual motors (front and rear) delivering a combined output of 345 kW. Drawing parallels with the iX3 SUV on the same platform, a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive i3 40 variant may follow, producing 235 kW. The vehicle will also incorporate BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, an 800V electrical architecture, new cylindrical battery cells, and a 108.7 kWh battery pack. While its WLTP range is expected to fall slightly short of the sedan’s claimed 900 km, it should still lead the segment among all-electric estates. Additionally, BMW is considering a high-performance variant. An M Performance model is virtually confirmed, and there’s even potential for a future all-electric M3 Touring equipped with a quad-motor setup—some of whose technologies could be derived from the M Neue Klasse concept sedan.
