Xiaomi Auto Kicks Off Malaysia Expansion, Hiring Government Relations Manager

Xiaomi Technology posted a job listing on LinkedIn around July 17, seeking to hire a Government Relations Manager for its automotive business in Malaysia. The role primarily involves managing Xiaomi’s government and regulatory affairs related to its automotive operations in the country, serving as the main point of contact between the company and government authorities, and coordinating internal and external collaborations to support the automotive business. Applicants are required to have at least five years of government work experience or relevant background in government relations, regulatory affairs, or public policy within the automotive or automation industries. Candidates must also be familiar with Malaysia’s government policies, automotive regulatory framework, CBU (Completely Built-Up) and CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) operational models, customs regulations, import/export procedures, and trade compliance requirements. The position has already attracted over 100 applicants. According to Xiaomi’s previously announced overseas expansion plan for its automotive business, the company aims to officially launch its international market entry in the third or fourth quarter of 2027. Its overall strategy prioritizes developed markets before expanding into developing countries, targets mid-to-high-end segments initially before moving into the mid-range segment, and will first introduce right-hand-drive vehicles before offering left-hand-drive models. Senior executives at Xiaomi Group have stated that automobiles are heavily regulated products, and entering overseas markets entails complex tasks such as legal and regulatory compliance, product localization, and channel network development. They added that all preparatory work is progressing as scheduled, and further updates will be disclosed at an appropriate time.
