An Audi A2 E-Tron prototype was recently spotted in Copenhagen, no longer wearing traditional black-and-white camouflage but instead featuring an E-Tron-specific livery with fluorescent green accents. The vehicle is fully electric and built on Volkswagen Group’s rear-wheel-drive MEB platform, sharing substantial technical components with the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. In terms of design, the new model retains several styling cues from the original A2, such as a rear spoiler that splits the rear windshield into two sections, along with the distinctive front side window shape and pronounced wheel arches reminiscent of the late-1990s first-generation A2. Its overall proportions fall between a compact hatchback and a micro MPV, creating a unique “semi-hatchback, semi-microcar” aesthetic. The doors feature flush-fitting handles styled like winglets, while the front fascia maintains Audi’s split-headlight layout: slim daytime running light strips sit above, with the main headlamps concealed behind darkened glass below. The test vehicle rides on 19-inch wheels wrapped in 235/45 R19 Bridgestone Turanza tires and is fitted with aerodynamic wheel covers to optimize drag. Although the interior is heavily covered, the outline of a dual-screen setup remains discernible. Despite Audi’s recent announcement to reduce the number of interior displays in future models, the A2 E-Tron will retain the current design language due to its lengthy development cycle. Regarding powertrain and range, drawing parallels with the ID.3 Neo, the A2 E-Tron is expected to offer three battery options—50 kWh, 58 kWh, and 79 kWh—with a maximum range of approximately 630 kilometers. Motor outputs are likely to include variants rated at 168 hp, 188 hp, and 228 hp. The A2 E-Tron is scheduled for an official debut this autumn, positioned as an entry-level all-electric hatchback. Its price is anticipated to sit above the ID.3 Neo (starting at €33,995 in Germany) but below the Audi Q4 E-Tron (starting at €47,500 in Germany).
