Ford Motor Company published a patent on July 14, 2026, numbered US 12,680,843, describing a configurable rear sensor bar. This sensor bar can be mounted to the vehicle chassis and consists of a main body and two end caps that can move laterally. By adjusting the position of the end caps, the overall length of the bar changes to accommodate chassis widths of varying dimensions. The sensor bar integrates multiple sensors that support remote monitoring, autonomous driving, and parking assistance functions. Some of these sensors move in sync with the end caps, enabling calibration tailored to different vehicle configurations. Additionally, one month prior to this patent publication, Ford disclosed another patent for a vehicle visibility system. Designed to enhance driver visibility during nighttime or adverse weather conditions, the system can detect disabled or accident-involved vehicles at the roadside and automatically alert emergency responders upon confirming an incident. Ford stated that filing patents is a routine part of its business operations, aimed at protecting innovations and building its intellectual property portfolio, but such filings do not directly indicate its future product plans.
