Tesla FSD v15 Early Build Now Running on Robotaxi Fleet

Tesla has deployed an early test version of FSD v15 in its Robotaxi autonomous ride-hailing fleet. The fleet, composed of modified Model Y vehicles, currently offers unsupervised autonomous driving services across six cities in two U.S. states, having accumulated over 380,000 miles of operation. Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of AI, stated that the Robotaxi program is running smoothly with a strong safety record and revealed that FSD v15 includes seven major planned improvements. The current early version has already implemented approximately 40% of these anticipated enhancements, with all internal testing metrics meeting their targets. The Model Y vehicles used for Robotaxi are based on Tesla’s standard Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) platform and differ from retail models only by the addition of a “Project Halo” communication module and a rear camera washer system. FSD v15 is expected to roll out to the public later this year or early next year, featuring a model parameter scale ten times larger than the current version, significantly boosting system performance and decision-making capabilities. Tesla confirmed that FSD v15 will be exclusive to HW4 hardware; vehicles equipped with the older Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) will not receive this update. The recently released FSD v14 Lite for HW3 vehicles is likely their final major version unless a future hardware upgrade path becomes available to support more advanced autonomous capabilities. With the early version of FSD v15 now in real-world operation, Tesla is accelerating the expansion of its Robotaxi service. This month alone, the service has launched in three new cities: Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. The company previously indicated it would wait for FSD v15 to be ready before large-scale deployment, and current progress suggests broader commercial rollout may soon begin.
