BMW plans to launch an all-electric i4 convertible in 2028, internally codenamed "NA3." It will be the brand's first mass-produced four-seat all-electric convertible and will belong to the Neue Klasse (New Class) 3 Series family. Developed from the outset as a pure electric vehicle, the model won't need to accommodate internal combustion engine components, allowing for optimized wheel placement and wheelbase to enhance cabin space. The new car is expected to feature a soft-top roof—lighter than the folding hardtop used on the previous F33 model, taking up less trunk space when stowed, and offering simpler construction and manufacturing processes, which helps control costs. Production of the current gasoline-powered 4 Series Convertible (codenamed G23) and the G83 M4 Convertible will continue at BMW's Dingolfing plant until mid-2029. Whether a high-performance i4 M convertible variant will be offered has not yet been confirmed.
