The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA made its global debut in the early hours of July 30 Beijing time. As the successor to the brand’s entry-level compact crossover SUV, it will be launched as the 2028 model year vehicle and will be offered in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The all-electric GLA lineup includes two powertrain options: the GLA 250+ and the GLA 350 4MATIC, delivering maximum outputs of 200 kW and 260 kW, respectively. The GLA 350 4MATIC accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. Both models are equipped with an 85.0 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a maximum WLTP-rated range of up to 657 kilometers in Europe. The plug-in hybrid variant features a newly developed 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with an electric motor integrated into a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Two powertrain configurations will be available, though specific output figures for power and torque have not yet been disclosed. Exterior design differentiates the two powertrains: the all-electric version sports a chrome-trimmed grille with illuminated elements, while the hybrid model features a star-pattern grille. The vehicle measures 4,565 mm in length, 1,873 mm in width, and 1,604 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. It adopts entirely new body panels, redesigned headlights, and horizontally emphasized taillights to enhance the perception of width. Wheel options range from 18 to 20 inches, with AMG Line and Night Edition trims featuring exclusive exterior accents, wheels, and interior detailing. Inside, the cabin follows the design language of the CLA, standardizing a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment display, with an optional larger MBUX entertainment screen. The available “Sky Control” panoramic roof can switch between transparent and opaque states in milliseconds. A premium 16-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system is also offered as an option. The new GLA is expected to go on sale in 2027, with pricing yet to be announced. For reference, the current 2026 GLA 250 gasoline model starts at $42,850 USD (approximately RMB 290,000) including destination charges, suggesting the next-generation model could start around $45,000 USD (approximately RMB 305,000).
