NIO officially launched its first Generation 5 battery swap station on August 7 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province—the company’s 4,000th swap station nationwide. This latest-generation station is compatible with vehicles from three brands: NIO, Onvo, and Firefly, and supports battery swaps for Firefly models. The station’s battery inventory has increased to 13 units—three more than the previous generation, representing a roughly 30% increase. It also features eight standard ultra-fast chargers, each with a maximum power output of 500 kW, and integrates V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology for grid peak-shaving capabilities, enabling bidirectional energy flow. In terms of swapping efficiency, the Generation 5 station employs a retractable robotic arm to further streamline operations, improving upon the previous generation’s record-fast swap time of 2 minutes and 24 seconds. As of August 3, NIO had built a total of 9,149 charging and swapping stations across China, including 3,994 swap stations and 5,155 charging stations equipped with 29,781 charging piles. Collectively, these facilities have delivered over 110 million battery swap services to date. NIO plans to deploy at least 1,000 Generation 5 swap stations by 2026, with more than 1,000 new swap stations to be added this year alone. By the end of this year, the company’s total number of swap stations nationwide is expected to exceed 4,600.
