In July 2026, the retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China's passenger car market reached 65.1%, up by 11.6 percentage points year-over-year and 2.1 percentage points month-over-month. Among them, NEV penetration for domestic brands stood at 83.8%, while that for mainstream joint-venture brands was 13.7%. In the same month, domestic brands accounted for 64.6% of NEV retail sales, down 5.3 percentage points year-over-year; mainstream joint-venture brands held a 4.5% share, up 0.9 percentage points year-over-year; and emerging NEV brands captured 26.8% of the market, an increase of 5.4 percentage points year-over-year. Leapmotor delivered over 100,000 vehicles in July, a year-over-year surge of 102%, becoming the first emerging NEV brand to surpass 100,000 deliveries in a single month. NIO delivered 35,934 vehicles in July, up 71% year-over-year, bringing its cumulative deliveries for the first seven months to 227,057 units, a 68% year-over-year increase. Of these, the NIO brand delivered 20,008 vehicles (up 57.9% YoY), Onvo delivered 10,155 vehicles (up 69.9% YoY), and Firefly delivered 5,771 vehicles. As of July, NIO’s total cumulative deliveries reached 1,224,649 units. NEV retail sales remained high in July at 980,000 units, with the penetration rate hitting a new monthly record.
