July NEV Passenger Car Exports Surge 147.8% YoY, BYD Leads

In July 2026, China exported 540,000 new energy passenger vehicles (NEVs), surging 147.8% year-on-year and rising 8.1% month-on-month. NEVs accounted for 58.8% of total passenger vehicle exports, up 14 percentage points from the same period last year. Among NEV exports, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) represented 59.5%, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) 35.9%, and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) 4.6%. A00- and A0-segment BEVs made up 42.2% of total BEV exports, an increase of 5.6 percentage points year-on-year. By automaker, BYD exported 173,721 NEVs in July, up 123.6% year-on-year, capturing 43.1% of total NEV exports. Chery Automobile exported 82,768 units, Tesla China exported 66,330 units, and Geely Auto exported 60,584 units. In the first half of 2026, Chery’s cumulative exports reached 931,500 vehicles, while BYD exported 769,300 units—combined, the two accounted for nearly 30% of China’s total vehicle exports. Great Wall Motor, SAIC-GM-Wuling, Lingtu Auto, and SAIC Motor reported relatively high proportions of CKD (Completely Knocked Down) exports.
