On August 12, OpenAI launched a Linux version of the ChatGPT desktop app (preview), enabling users on compatible Linux systems to access Chat, ChatGPT Work, and Codex features. Official .deb and .rpm installation packages are provided for both x64 and arm64 architectures, supporting distributions including Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44. The app integrates the Codex and ChatGPT functionalities previously introduced in the desktop application released in July, preserving users’ existing Codex tasks and projects, and allowing them to select a Codex app icon in settings.
