A recent report comprehensively evaluated the performance of 15 countries in areas including Robotaxi deployment, road infrastructure, legal frameworks, and public sentiment. The results showed that China ranks first globally in readiness for autonomous vehicle adoption, followed by the United States in second place. The report only counted Robotaxi services currently transporting paying passengers, excluding product launches, pilot programs, and driver-assist systems requiring human intervention. Data shows that China has accumulated over 17 million Robotaxi rides, with Baidu’s “Apollo Go” already operating fully driverless vehicles. The country boasts 96% population coverage for 5G networks and more than 3 million electric vehicle (EV) charging points nationwide. China scored 4.8 out of a possible 7 for road quality. In the U.S., Robotaxis handle approximately 500,000 paid rides per week—around 26 million annually—and achieved a road quality score of 5.6, with nearly 200,000 EV chargers installed. Singapore, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates ranked third through fifth, respectively.
