On August 13, Elon Musk announced on social media that all future Tesla vehicles will come standard with the Starlink satellite internet system. Previously, on August 11, Tesla’s official Robotaxi account (@robotaxi) posted a tweet showcasing the first Cybercab autonomous taxi integrated with Starlink, featuring its antenna housed within a rectangular compartment at the rear of the vehicle. Musk reposted the tweet, noting that owners would be able to stream 4K live sports, movies, play games, or work from inside the car. In July this year, Tesla unveiled its Starlink solution for the Cybercab for the first time at its San Jose showroom, stating it would incorporate the latest V5 satellite antenna capable of download speeds up to 375 Mbps. The new V5 hardware weighs just 2.4 pounds (approximately 1.1 kg), a significant reduction from the previous 6.5 pounds (about 3 kg). According to repair expert Oleg Kutkov, Tesla is developing a vehicle-specific version of the V5 antenna codenamed “rev5_pez_auto_proto1,” which reduces the number of antenna elements from 820 to 800 to make room for a GNSS receiver and incorporates the STA8090 GNSS chip. The standard V5 antenna, designed for fixed installations, does not include a GNSS module.
