Porsche Plans to Discontinue Taycan by 2030 at the Latest

According to Germany's Wirtschaftswoche on August 13, Porsche plans to discontinue its all-electric Taycan model by 2030 at the latest. Sources familiar with the matter said the company had previously considered shifting Taycan production to its Leipzig plant due to extremely low capacity utilization at the Stuttgart headquarters factory. Porsche also explored options for an earlier phase-out but ultimately decided to gradually withdraw the model from the market before 2030, with production continuing at the Stuttgart facility in the interim. Porsche has reached an understanding with its works council regarding this plan, though no formal written agreement has yet been finalized. In late July, Porsche CEO Michael Lietzke stated that there were no immediate plans to discontinue the Taycan, noting the company had invested heavily in the model and wished to monitor evolving market demand. Porsche has not provided further comment on the reported plan to end Taycan production by 2030. The Taycan is Porsche’s flagship all-electric vehicle and was a key symbol of the company’s full electrification strategy during its IPO in 2022, when Porsche targeted having 80% of its global sales come from fully electric models by 2030. Initial Taycan sales grew rapidly after launch but have since weakened significantly: deliveries totaled approximately 41,000 units in 2023, dropped to around 16,000 in 2024, and fell further to just over 6,000 in the first half of 2025. Due to sluggish demand, Porsche’s Stuttgart plant has suspended Taycan production multiple times over the past several months. Earlier this year, media reports indicated that Porsche was evaluating merging the Taycan and Panamera into a single model line, offering internal combustion engine, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric powertrain options within the same series.
