On August 13, Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD Dynasty Network, announced at the launch event of the Qin Max that all variants of the Qin Max EV come standard with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. Lu revealed that in July this year, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) included BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and its megawatt-level flash charging system in the “National Heavyweights” list, alongside iconic national achievements such as the Long March rockets and the COMAC C919 aircraft. According to information released at the event, the second-generation Blade Battery can be charged in just five minutes at ambient temperature to provide enough power for 90 kilometers of driving range, and fully charged in nine minutes. Even in extreme cold conditions of minus 30 degrees Celsius, charging time increases by only three minutes. The accompanying flash charging station delivers a single-gun output of up to 1,500 kW and is equipped with a super-fast discharge energy storage system to overcome grid capacity limitations. To alleviate concerns over charging costs, BYD announced that Qin Max owners will receive one year of complimentary flash charging privileges. As of the end of June, BYD had built 7,018 flash charging stations across 325 cities—from Shuangyashan in Heilongjiang Province in the north, Kashgar in Xinjiang in the west, Sanya in Hainan in the south, to Hulunbuir in Inner Mongolia in the east—and has already deployed flash charging infrastructure in Turpan, the Mount Everest region, and along the Keketuohai Scenic Highway. Additionally, in June this year, BYD signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Sinopec, planning to integrate its flash charging stations into Sinopec’s nationwide network of over 30,000 fuel-and-energy stations. BYD aims to have 20,000 flash charging stations operational by the end of this year.
