NIO Firefly Aster 2.0.0 Update Rolls Out with Immersive Desktop, Mic-Free Karaoke and More

On August 14, Firefly—the smart EV brand under NIO—announced the rollout of Aster Aster 2.0.0, a major system update covering enhancements to the intelligent cockpit, the AI companion Lumo, overall vehicle experience, and advanced driver assistance features. The new version introduces the “Versatile Xiao Ying Image Generator,” allowing users to upload custom images and combine them with AI-powered creative templates to generate unique in-car wallpapers. It also adds an “Immersive Desktop” that displays a full-screen home screen with dynamic backgrounds that change based on the “Clock Ambience Ring,” “Music Ambience Ring,” or “Wallpaper Ambience Ring (Scenic Collection).” A new desktop mirroring feature enables left-right layout switching so the ambience ring appears closer to the driver’s side. Additionally, the information panel is now customizable, supporting displays for weather alerts, personalized signatures, lyrics, and more. A new “Firefly Roaming Ambience Ring” offers regional ecosystem exploration and a digital field guide for collecting biological species. A new “Screen-Off Mode” puts the central display and instrument cluster into standby when the vehicle is in Park (P), with wake-up via touch or voice command. A birthday greeting feature has also been added: once a user’s birthday is registered, the system automatically triggers a celebratory scene upon the first entry into the car on their birthday, with Lumo playing a personalized birthday song. The update introduces the “Amber Sea” system theme and refines the mini status bar for smoother interactions during navigation, commuting, charging/discharging, and incoming calls. Enhanced memory functions now include vehicle settings (parking light animations, door-ajar alert toggle, auto-lock-on-exit toggle), local user preferences (mic-free karaoke audio effects/backup vocals selection, camping mode settings, intersection view toggle, Firefly Roaming Ambience Ring), and account-specific settings (commute-mode map preferences, FluxMedia login credentials, browser website logins, Smart Guard narrow-space parking recommendations, and intelligent headlight reminder toggle). New mic-free karaoke allows singing without a microphone, powered by proprietary mic-free audio capture and “Firefly Sound” algorithms, complemented by a 14-speaker surround sound system. “Quanmin Karaoke” (Everyone’s Karaoke) is now available with over 10 million licensed backing tracks. A built-in web browser supports URL input and lets users pin favorite sites to the app center. “FluxMedia” debuts as a unified streaming platform for music, radio, and video content, syncing premium membership benefits. Youku Video brings TV shows, movies, and variety programs, while “YunTing” offers access to over 1,500 radio stations nationwide. QQ Music receives upgrades with AI-curated playlists and a smart recommendation zone. A new “Intersection View” feature automatically displays forward-facing camera footage at crosswalks. “Commute Mode” can now initiate navigation automatically based on user habits. Navigation cruise announcements are enhanced with a background continuous announcement toggle. Map route cards now support horizontal swiping to browse nearby charging and parking options. Lumo, the intelligent companion, gains new capabilities including querying charging stations, voice control for camping mode/screen-off mode/mute/mic-free karaoke, and voice activation of dashcam/Guard Mode video interfaces, FluxMedia, Youku Video, YunTing, and light show themes. Voice commands now support playback control for QQ Music’s “Daily 30 Songs,” “Recommended for You,” specific NIO Radio programs, FluxMedia, and YunTing content. Multi-zone voice interaction has also been optimized for higher command recognition accuracy. New driving modes include “Camping Mode,” which maintains vehicle power while temporarily disabling auto-lock-on-exit, and “Wetland Mode,” which optimizes power delivery, braking, and regenerative braking strategies for rainy or slippery conditions. Smart Guard now intelligently identifies narrow parking scenarios and proactively activates Guard Mode. The auto-lock-on-exit experience is refined with a dedicated toggle for the “Door-Ajar Alert Sound.” “Nap Mode” now supports continuous operation beyond four hours. “Trio Light Show” is upgraded with new welcome, farewell, and parking light animations. Remote control via the NIO App is enhanced: after remotely activating seat ventilation/heating or steering wheel heating, these settings automatically remain active upon unlocking and entering the vehicle. On privacy, a new “Driver Intelligence Awareness” feature uses the in-cabin camera for fatigue and distraction detection when enabled, with all data processed locally on the vehicle. When disabled, fatigue/distraction alerts are turned off—except when required by law or during active ADAS operation. A new “Deep” intelligent deodorization mode improves ambient humidity detection logic, keeping the compressor running continuously in high-humidity environments to minimize odors. Intelligent headlight reminders now automatically toggle between high and low beams at night during Lane Centering Assist or Navigate on Pilot if a vehicle ahead is straddling lane markings or is a large vehicle, to alert the driver ahead. Visual Fusion Assisted Parking is upgraded to allow selecting front-in or rear-in parking direction. Vehicle summon and remote parking-out experiences are refined, with improved account synchronization that automatically loads the current user’s settings upon entering the car.
