On August 14, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) announced that the Phase II of the Supernode energy storage project in Australia, developed by Quinbrook, has recently commenced commercial operations. Concurrently, the AUD 469 million financing for Phase III has been successfully closed. Phases I and II, with a combined capacity of 520 MW/1,858 MWh, are now fully operational. Upon completion of Phase III, the project’s total energy storage capacity will exceed 3 GWh, making it the largest operating battery energy storage project in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM). CATL is the sole supplier of energy storage systems for this project, and its Tianheng energy storage system will be exclusively deployed in Phase III. The two parties also plan to jointly develop an 8-hour long-duration energy storage solution in the future. To ensure the safety and efficient operation of large-scale energy storage assets throughout their lifecycle, CATL has established a unified, standardized technical platform at the site.
