On August 14, 2024, during Monterey Car Week, McLaren unveiled the McL6GT concept car (internal codename P50) and announced that a production version will launch in 2028 as a globally limited-edition model. The McL6GT is the spiritual successor to the 1960s M6GT road car—the only road-going vehicle ever built by McLaren founder Bruce McLaren. Equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox and a traditional three-pedal layout, the McL6GT marks McLaren’s first new road car featuring a manual transmission in nearly 34 years, since the iconic McLaren F1 of 1992. It also represents the first entirely new model series revealed following McLaren’s merger with startup Forseven in spring 2023. Stylistically, the McL6GT draws heavily from 1960s race cars, featuring an elongated silhouette, high-mounted headlights, large side air intakes beneath the doors, and Bruce McLaren’s signature emblazoned on the engine cover. Inside, the cockpit boasts a large digital instrument cluster, knurled aluminum controls, a metal gearshift lever with exposed linkages, and dual-tone machined pedals. McLaren emphasizes that the car prioritizes driver engagement, delivering a “tactile, analog-biased, and deeply mechanical” driving experience.
