Xiaomi Auto Details Pengcheng’s Standard 9 Collision Sensors and Battery Thermal Safety Tests

Xiaomi Auto released its 278th episode of “Answers to Netizens’ Questions” in the early hours of August 16, detailing multiple safety design features of the Xiaomi Pengcheng vehicle series. Regarding the “Xiaomi Longjia Battery,” thermal safety tests were conducted under extreme conditions: a high temperature of 55°C with the battery fully charged—conditions far beyond normal operating parameters. In the unlikely event of complete thermal management system failure, the battery management system can promptly disconnect power output to ensure the battery temperature remains below 55°C. These test conditions are significantly more stringent than China’s new national standard, which specifies an ambient temperature of 22±5°C and a state of charge ≥95%. Under these harsh test conditions, even after a single cell experienced thermal runaway, there was no thermal propagation, fire, or explosion. The Xiaomi Pengcheng N90 Max is equipped with 12 airbags throughout all three rows of seating. These include driver and front passenger frontal airbags; left and right side airbags for rows one and two; dual-chamber far-side airbags for rows one and two; left and right side airbags for the third row; and two ultra-long side curtain airbags extending from row one through row three. These curtain airbags measure 3,030 mm in length and have a volume of 72 liters, utilizing dual inflators for rapid deployment. The far-side airbags in rows one and two feature a dual-chamber structure and four-point mounting, reducing head displacement by up to 24% in specific side-impact scenarios. All Xiaomi Pengcheng models come standard with nine crash sensors strategically positioned at the front bumper beam, front rails, front doors, B-pillars, and C-pillars—covering critical zones from the vehicle’s front end to the sides of the passenger compartment. This layout enables comprehensive collision data acquisition, accurately identifying impact location and direction to inform timely deployment of restraint systems such as airbags. Given the vehicle’s identity as an intelligent, flexible-space SUV, side-impact sensing has been extended to the C-pillar area to effectively address mid-to-rear side collision scenarios.
