On August 4, the State Grid Corporation of China officially launched the heavy-duty truck charging demonstration station at Zhangqiu Service Area (Shanghai-bound) on the Beijing–Shanghai Expressway. The station features six dedicated charging bays for heavy-duty trucks, equipped with 12 high-power charging terminals, each capable of delivering a maximum charging power of 800 kW—enabling a 450 kWh battery-powered heavy-duty truck to be fully charged within 15 to 20 minutes. The charging station employs three distinct technical layouts: a DC microgrid flexible charging zone, a high-efficiency high-power charging zone, and a pre-assembled integrated charging zone. It also incorporates advanced technologies such as quantum-based battery safety inspection, zero-power standby mode, and flexible grid compatibility. Additionally, the station innovatively adopts medium-voltage direct connection, solid-state transformers, and flexible power dispatching technologies, transforming megawatt-level high-power charging loads from rigid consumption to flexible and adjustable usage. This demonstration station actively mitigates charging load fluctuations and suppresses harmonic distortions. It can also participate in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interactions to support grid peak-shaving and valley-filling, frequency regulation, and voltage stabilization. It is designated as China’s first “Type-One, Six-Capabilities” electric heavy-duty truck high-power charging hub tailored for the new power system—characterized as grid-friendly, with adjustable and controllable power, storable and consumable energy, and grid-supportive stability.
