In June 2024, BYD sold approximately 19,000 vehicles in Australia, capturing an 8.5% market share—surpassing Ford, Mazda, and Hyundai, and ranking second only to Toyota. In the first half of 2024, BYD’s sales in Australia surged by 124% year-on-year, while Chery’s sales rose by 77% and Geely’s soared by 495%. During the same period, mainstream Japanese automakers saw widespread declines in sales, with the exception of Honda: Mazda’s sales fell 17% year-on-year, Toyota’s dropped by 21%, and both Subaru and Mitsubishi posted a 25% decline.
