According to data from the Passenger Car Association (CPCA), retail sales of passenger vehicles nationwide in July 2026 totaled 1.461 million units, down 20.9% year-over-year and down 8.8% month-over-month. Among these, Chinese brands accounted for 1.038 million units, capturing a market share of 71.1%. German brands sold 181,000 units, a year-over-year decline of 31.7%, with their market share falling to 12.4%. Japanese brands recorded sales of 160,000 units, down 32.3% year-over-year, holding a 10.9% share. U.S. brands sold 61,000 units, down 36.0% year-over-year, reducing their share to 4.2%. Korean brands sold 13,000 units, a 32.7% year-over-year drop, with a mere 0.9% market share. French brands sold just 2,022 units, down 37.9% year-over-year, shrinking their share to 0.2%. Other European brands sold 5,523 units, plunging 53.7% year-over-year. From January to July 2026, cumulative retail sales of Chinese brands reached 6.677 million units, down 18.6% year-over-year, with a market share of 65.6%—an increase of 5.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
