According to data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) of Australia, in July 2024, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 21.7% of total new car sales in Australia, marking the second consecutive month that their share exceeded one-fifth. When including hybrid electric vehicles, electrified vehicles represented 48.4% of total new car sales. In June 2024, Chinese-branded vehicles sold 46,600 units in Australia, surpassing Japanese brands, which sold 27,100 units. In February this year, China became Australia’s largest monthly source of new vehicle imports for the first time. Tony Weber, Chief Executive Officer of the FCAI, stated that Chinese new energy vehicle brands are enhancing their competitiveness in Australia by establishing physical dealership networks and after-sales service systems. He also noted that electric vehicles represent the future trend of the automotive industry and expressed optimism about the prospects for cooperation between Australia and China in this sector.
