On August 19, 2024, photos of prototype BMW i3 Touring estate models for the 2027 model year undergoing testing at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany were released. Based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, the test vehicles are believed to be the i3 50 xDrive variant, equipped with dual electric motors delivering a combined peak output of 463 hp. The car features BMW’s sixth-generation electric motor and battery technology, powered by a 108.7 kWh cylindrical-cell battery pack, offering an estimated WLTP range of approximately 885 kilometers on a full charge. In terms of charging, the vehicle is expected to support DC fast charging at up to 400 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in about 21 minutes, as well as 22 kW AC charging. Visually, the prototypes wore camouflage only on the front and rear fascias and side mirrors, otherwise closely resembling the design language of the sedan version. On the day of testing, after a warm-up lap, the car recorded a lap time under eight minutes—a first-ever timed lap for this model at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Additional testing sessions are anticipated before its market launch.
