On August 21, Rolf Michl, head of Audi Sport, stated that the company has not yet decided whether to discontinue its 2.5-liter turbocharged TFSI (Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection) inline-five engine. This engine features a 1-2-4-5-3 firing order, which gives it its distinctive sound. Michl noted that the engine remains competitive and that Audi is currently evaluating how it can comply with the upcoming Euro 7 emissions regulations, while also working with Audi teams on plans for the next-generation RS 3. To meet future regulatory requirements, Audi Sport may introduce an electric assist system, though this would increase vehicle weight and costs. Synthetic fuels are also being considered as a potential carbon-neutral pathway, but Audi has not yet confirmed whether it will adopt hybrid technology, synthetic fuels, or any other specific solution.
