On August 25, in response to online rumors claiming "Honda will stop launching internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in China starting from 2027," Honda China clarified that this information actually refers to a previously announced strategic plan released in April 2023. According to that strategy, Honda plans that all new models launched in China after 2027 will be either hybrid or battery-electric vehicles, with no new pure ICE models introduced. The company also aims to achieve 100% battery-electric vehicle sales in the Chinese market by 2035. GAC Honda likewise described the report as "old news." Honda further stated that it is currently reviewing and adjusting its business strategy in light of evolving market conditions, including evaluating various possibilities regarding its ICE vehicle rollout plan, which remains focused primarily on hybrids. As of now, GAC Honda offers only one battery-electric model—the P7—with a starting price of RMB 149,900. Dongfeng Honda provides three BEV models: the S7, e:NS2, and Lingxi. During the Beijing Auto Show in April this year, GAC Honda announced plans to launch three new models covering fuel-powered, hybrid, and new energy segments by 2027. On July 20, Honda and GAC signed an agreement extending their joint venture partnership for GAC Honda until 2038, maintaining the existing equity structure. On August 2, Lin Zhibin, Deputy General Manager of GAC Honda, revealed that the company will successively introduce five new models over the next two years, including new hybrid products and two locally developed new energy vehicles.
