Jaguar Land Rover Delays All-Electric Defender to 2030s, Focuses on Electric Range Rover

According to reports on August 25, Jaguar Land Rover has slowed the full model replacement cycle for the Defender and delayed the launch of the next-generation all-electric Defender until the 2030s. The company has not confirmed a specific launch date for the electric Defender nor verified the accuracy of these reports. Currently, Jaguar Land Rover emphasizes its continued offering of gasoline, diesel, and hybrid variants while prioritizing other pure-electric SUV projects that have already reached a mature development stage. The company has recently reduced certain expenditures to concentrate resources on models nearing production readiness. Confirmed electric vehicle projects include the all-electric Range Rover and Range Rover Sport built on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA), which will be produced at the Solihull plant. Additionally, the first Range Rover family SUV based on the Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) will be assembled at the Halewood facility. The all-electric Range Rover is scheduled to make its official debut later this year and enter the market between October 2026 and March 2027. Jaguar Land Rover has not disclosed a specific timeline for when the all-electric Defender will join its product lineup, nor has it confirmed plans or schedules regarding potential collaboration with partners to produce Defender family vehicles in the United States.
