Mercedes-AMG Tests Autonomous GT 63 Prototype at Nürburgring

On August 26, Mercedes-AMG was spotted testing a GT 63 prototype equipped with autonomous driving technology at the Nürburgring circuit. The vehicle appeared similar to standard models but featured three sensors mounted on its roof. During testing, occupants kept their hands off the steering wheel throughout. The prototype first completed a lap in approximately 25 minutes, driving along the far right side of the track to collect mapping data. It then repeated the run along the far left side. After confirming the track boundaries, the car performed its first fully hands-free lap in under 20 minutes, adopting a conservative driving style with limited acceleration and early braking. A second lap was several minutes faster than the first but still significantly slower than the previous autonomous record of 10 minutes and 29.483 seconds set by the Xiaomi YU7 GT. Following the test runs, the vehicle returned to the pit lane for engineers to analyze data and fine-tune settings. Mercedes-AMG expects to return to the Nürburgring for further testing in the future.
