Tesla China Denies Rumors of FSD Data Center Exit from Shanghai

Recent online reports claimed that Tesla’s Shanghai data center, established in preparation for the launch of Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China, has been “completely vacated,” with all related liaison teams withdrawn. On August 26, an internal source from Tesla China responded to these claims, calling them “unfounded.” Publicly available information indicates that Tesla continues to advance data compliance and localization efforts for Supervised FSD in the Chinese market. The Shanghai data center already ensures full retention of data within mainland China, and the AI training center in Lingang, Shanghai, commenced operations in February 2026. Additionally, Tesla has partnered with Baidu Maps to utilize high-definition maps that meet regulatory requirements. On data security, certain Tesla vehicle models have already obtained certification against four automotive data security standards. Currently, Tesla’s North American website lists 12 regions globally where Supervised FSD subscriptions are available: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium—China is not included. However, this list refers only to regions where subscription services can be activated and does not represent the full scope of markets where Supervised FSD is actually usable. According to Tesla’s U.S. website, China remains listed among the regions where Supervised FSD is functionally available. In February this year, Tao Lin, Vice President of Tesla Global, stated that the company is actively participating in the development of China’s advanced driver-assistance systems. Although Tesla has not yet officially rolled out the “full-version” FSD to Chinese users, it has been continuously adapting the system for the Chinese market and has already established a local training center to deploy China-specific training capabilities in advance. To date, there is no public information indicating that Tesla has withdrawn its preparations for launching Supervised FSD in China.
