Recently, FAW Group officially inaugurated its Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center. The center is equipped with 43 industrial-grade printers utilizing eight mainstream additive manufacturing processes, forming a scaled "printing matrix" capable of producing approximately 19,000 parts annually. Additive manufacturing technology has already been integrated into multiple areas at FAW Group, including R&D validation, small-batch production, tooling and auxiliary equipment fabrication, aftermarket spare parts, and personalized customization. For instance, interior components for models such as the Hongqi Golden Sunflower are now mass-produced using 3D printing combined with genuine leather wrapping and fumigation processes, resulting in total cost savings of approximately RMB 305.9 million compared to traditional methods. Critical prototype parts—such as single-cylinder engine cylinder heads and catalytic converter end cones—manufactured via Selective Laser Melting (SLM) have achieved mechanical properties on par with those produced by conventional casting techniques. This technology is also employed for high-precision replication of classic vehicles like the Dongfeng Xiaojinlong and heritage Hongqi models. The platform supplies thousands of tooling aids and validation prototypes annually to FAW Group’s subsidiaries, fully integrating into the R&D and manufacturing systems across all its brands.
