On August 27, Tesla announced that the China-made Model Y became the best-selling single imported vehicle model in Japan during the first half of 2024. As of April 2024, Tesla operated approximately 35 stores and 14 service centers in Japan. The company plans to expand its store count to at least 60 and aims to become Japan’s top-selling imported automotive brand as early as 2025. According to industry data, the top four imported car brands in Japan by sales volume in 2025 are expected to be Mercedes-Benz (approximately 51,000 units), BMW, Volkswagen, and Audi.
