Porsche's Next-Gen Gas-Powered SUV Spied, Expected to Launch in 2028 Starting at $65,000

Porsche is currently testing its next-generation internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV, which is widely seen as the successor to the gasoline-powered Macan. Recent spy photos reveal that the test vehicle features non-OEM plastic components on the front fascia—distinct from those of the Audi Q5—altering the front-end design and positioning the front anchor points differently than on the Q5. Previously, Porsche had used the Audi Q5 body for testing for over a year, with early mules directly adopting the Q5’s exterior. The new SUV is built on Volkswagen Group’s PPC platform and will be significantly larger than the Audi Q5. It will be powered by electrified gasoline engines, offered in both four-cylinder and V6 configurations, with all-wheel drive standard across the lineup. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant will also be available, with an estimated all-electric range exceeding 100 kilometers. Spy shots have also captured a mule based on the Audi Q5 Sportback body, suggesting Porsche may launch both conventional SUV and coupe-SUV body styles simultaneously. Currently, the test vehicles still retain the Audi Q5 interior, as Porsche’s design changes so far have focused primarily on mechanical and chassis components; the cabin has yet to reveal its final design. Production of the ICE Macan officially ended in July 2026, leaving the all-electric Macan as the sole model on sale—though EV sales account for only about one-third of total Macan volume. The new SUV is expected to launch in 2028 with a starting price of approximately $65,000 (around RMB 437,000), though it may no longer carry the “Macan” name.
