Toyota Motor Corporation announced on August 28, 2026, that its global sales in July 2026—including those of its subsidiary Daihatsu—totaled 912,683 vehicles, down 5.3% year-over-year. Global production for the same period stood at 934,953 vehicles, a 1.4% decline from the previous year. In China, Toyota’s sales in July 2026 amounted to 114,747 vehicles, a sharp 24.3% drop compared to the same month last year. The company attributed this decline to persistently weak demand for gasoline-powered vehicles—including both conventional internal combustion engine models and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)—amid rising fuel prices in the Chinese market. From January to July 2026, Toyota’s cumulative sales in China reached 809,417 vehicles, down 18.2% year-over-year. In contrast, domestic sales in Japan during the same period totaled 193,785 vehicles, marking a 6.6% increase. Additionally, Toyota plans to begin production of its next-generation electric SUV in China starting in the autumn of 2027.
