On August 28, third-party research firm Jelang Road released its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Cost-Performance Index Report for August 2026. The report covers vehicles priced between RMB 50,000 and RMB 100,000, spanning two body types—sedans and SUVs—and two powertrain segments—battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid/extended-range electric vehicles (PHEVs/EREVs)—resulting in four separate rankings. Each ranking features the top five models with the highest cost-performance index scores. In the BEV sedan category, Leapmotor Lafa5 ranked first with a score of 151.4. Its 2026 515Max variant starts at a terminal reference price of approximately RMB 97,800, equipped with an LFP battery and offering a CLTC range of 515 km. Arcfox Alpha S3 came in second with a score of 142.8. Among PHEV sedans, BYD swept the top three spots: Seagull 05 DM-i led with a score of 114.3, followed closely by Qin Plus DM-i at 114.2 and Qin L DM-i at 113.5. In the BEV SUV segment, Changan Qiyuan Q05 EV topped the list with a score of 159.8. Its 2026 405 Laser Ultra variant starts at around RMB 79,900, making it the only SUV under RMB 100,000 equipped with LiDAR. For PHEV SUVs, Haval Xiaolong Max claimed the top position with a score of 133.7. Its 2026 Hi4 110 Air variant is available from RMB 116,800 as part of a limited-time trade-in offer and features Great Wall’s second-generation Hi4 intelligent all-wheel-drive hybrid technology.
