On August 28, 2026, Hu Jianbo, Director of the National Institute of Data Development, revealed at the opening ceremony of the 2026 China International Big Data Industry Expo that as of the end of June 2026, China’s intelligent computing capacity reached 2.4 million PFLOPS, an increase of 50.9% compared to the end of 2025. Intelligent computing resources in the eight national hub nodes accounted for nearly 90% of the country’s total. In 2025, China granted over 3,400 patents related to AI agents, more than double the growth rate of the previous year. The data industry reached a scale of RMB 6.78 trillion, up 15.7% year-on-year. Of this, data-related software products—including AI application software—and data resource products—including token-based services—generated combined revenues of RMB 4.99 trillion, accounting for 73.6% of the total data industry output. Tokens are gradually becoming the standard unit for measuring, billing, and reporting AI services. As of March 2026, the nationwide daily token usage surpassed 140 trillion—surging more than a thousandfold from 100 billion in early 2024 and 100 trillion at the end of 2025.
