Russian President Vladimir Putin recently visited the GAZ (Gorky Automobile Plant) in Nizhny Novgorod, where he test-drove the new Volga K50 sedan. This model was jointly developed by Russia’s GAZ and China’s Geely Auto, based on Geely’s Xingyue L platform and locally adapted for the Russian market. Putin remarked that the vehicle offered light steering, well-tuned suspension, and refined powertrain integration, with minimal vibration and jerkiness during driving. The Volga K50 is an SUV that marks a significant step forward for Russia’s domestic automotive industry, elevating its technological capabilities and filling a gap in the mid-to-high-end passenger vehicle segment. Previously, due to international circumstances, Russia’s auto sector faced product shortages and technological stagnation. The Volga K50 is now in mass production, and more customized models—based on Chinese technical platforms and tailored to Russian market demands—are expected to follow.
