On August 31, Nissan and Honda announced they have signed a joint development agreement to advance the standardization of core technologies for next-generation software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The standardization effort will cover multiple key electronic control units (ECUs), the in-vehicle operating systems running on these ECUs, critical middleware components, and vehicle control software. The two companies plan to implement an integrated electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture—incorporating jointly developed ECUs and software—into their respective next-generation SDV models starting in fiscal year 2029 (April 1, 2028, to March 31, 2029). Under the agreement, they will collaboratively establish technical specifications to define common standards for multiple core ECUs, in-vehicle operating systems, key middleware components, and vehicle control software within the next-generation SDV E/E architecture.
