Chinese Sodium Battery Firms Accelerate European Expansion

Recently, Xingkong Sodium Battery has partnered with Germany's HOYA Group to advance its sodium-ion energy storage products into the European market and establish a comprehensive service system covering certification, logistics, and grid integration. The two parties plan to set up a joint venture in Hamburg, Germany, to manage regional sales operations. Earlier this year, Xingkong also collaborated with BASF Germany on joint R&D of cutting-edge sodium-ion battery technologies. Xingkong possesses a full industrial chain encompassing cathode and anode materials, cells, PACK integration, and energy storage power stations, with total project investments exceeding RMB 10 billion. In 2024, the company holds over 1.5 GWh of domestic orders. Meanwhile, Luotuo Corporation’s 12V sodium-ion battery product has recently been selected for pre-development projects by leading European automakers and entered their technical validation systems. CATL has secured sodium-ion energy storage cooperation projects in the Netherlands (5 GWh) and Eastern Europe (2 GWh). Additionally, HiSway NaStar has partnered with European energy storage service provider Salzstrom to facilitate the deployment of sodium-ion energy storage systems across Europe.
