Volvo Cars announced on August 31, 2026, that it will close its Stockholm office and consolidate related business functions into its headquarters in Gothenburg. The Stockholm office currently employs approximately 450 people, representing about 1% of the company’s global full-time workforce of 42,600 as of December 2024. This move is part of the company’s broader cost-reduction and efficiency-enhancement initiatives. In April 2025, Volvo Cars launched an accelerated cost-reduction and cash flow optimization program totaling SEK 18 billion, covering variable cost optimization, indirect cost efficiencies, and targeted cash flow improvements. The following month, the company announced plans to cut around 3,000 jobs globally, including approximately 1,200 positions in Sweden and about 1,000 external consultant roles, with expected one-time restructuring costs of up to SEK 1.5 billion. Financial results show that Volvo Cars reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of SEK 77.7 billion, down 17% year-over-year; operating profit reached SEK 0.8 billion, compared to an operating loss of SEK 10 billion in the same period last year; and global sales totaled 171,500 vehicles, a 6% decline year-over-year. For the first half of 2026, total revenue amounted to SEK 150.3 billion, down 15% compared to the same period in 2025. The company stated it has already achieved its full-year target of SEK 5 billion in indirect cost savings—six months ahead of schedule. On the electrification front, Volvo sold 79,500 fully electric vehicles in the first half of 2026, a 13% year-over-year increase, raising the share of pure-electric models in total sales to 24%. Volvo Cars’ headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, serves as the central hub for product development, marketing, and administrative functions. The consolidation aims to further concentrate resources and enhance operational efficiency. Geely Sweden Holdings currently owns approximately 78.65% of Volvo Cars. In 2010, Geely Holding Group acquired Volvo Cars from Ford for approximately USD 2.7 billion. Since 2014, Volvo Cars has maintained consistent profitability.
