General Motors has initiated a recall in France involving 9,266 phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) inflators manufactured by Takata without desiccant, which remain unreplaced as of September 1, 2026. The recall affects Cadillac BLS and Escalade models, as well as Chevrolet Aveo T300, Cruze, Orlando, and Trax vehicles, with the highest numbers concentrated in certain model years of the Aveo, Cruze, and Orlando. General Motors has listed the affected vehicles on its French website as “Do Not Drive,” instructing owners to stop using their vehicles until the free repair is completed. While the repair itself typically takes about one hour, scheduling appointments, arranging parts, and verifying current owner information are more time-consuming. Starting January 2026, France will link completion of such “Do Not Drive” recalls to mandatory vehicle technical inspections, potentially requiring unrepaired vehicles to undergo re-inspection. To advance the recall, General Motors is employing mailed notifications, supplying materials to independent repair shops, integrating multiple owner data sources, and conducting door-to-door outreach in key markets.
