On September 2 (Beijing time), Jaguar Land Rover unveiled the first all-electric Range Rover, scheduled for market launch in 2025 with a starting price of £154,070 (approximately RMB 1.403 million). Built on the current Range Rover’s mixed-metal Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex), the new EV features dual permanent-magnet motors (front and rear) and a 120 kWh battery pack, delivering a system output of 542 horsepower and peak torque of 850 N·m. It achieves an estimated WLTP range of approximately 599 km and an official real-world range of around 531 km. Visually, the all-electric Range Rover differs minimally from its existing gasoline and plug-in hybrid counterparts. Developed over four years, the vehicle incorporates more than 300 patents filed by Jaguar Land Rover. The front motor adopts a new, more durable design, which extended the development timeline by several months. The battery pack is mounted beneath the cabin floor using a dual-layer stacked cell structure, while the rear electric drive unit occupies the space previously reserved for the limited-slip differential in combustion-engine models—without encroaching on luggage capacity. The vehicle’s curb weight is approximately 2,885 kg, 75 kg heavier than the plug-in hybrid version, and its center of gravity is lowered by 88 mm compared to the V8 model. The EV is equipped with the Range Rover Sport SV’s twin-valve dampers, dual-chamber air springs with adjustable ride height, and rear-wheel steering offering up to 7.3° of turn angle. Overall ride height is reduced by 15 mm versus the combustion-powered model, and ground clearance is decreased by 29 mm; however, suspension height remains adjustable, maintaining the stated wading depth of 900 mm. The battery pack and low-mounted drivetrain components are fully sealed, while high-mounted body vents facilitate cooling during water fording. The powertrain uses an open differential, transferring torque to the wheel with grip via braking the slipping wheel. In terms of acoustic refinement, cabin noise during full-throttle acceleration is 7 dB quieter than the V8 model, and 2.5 dB quieter when accelerating at 0.1g; noise levels during steady-speed cruising remain largely comparable. Maximum towing capacity stands at 2,500 kg—lower than the gasoline version’s 3,500 kg and the plug-in hybrid’s 3,000 kg. Based on analysis of over 360 million user trips, Jaguar Land Rover states that the all-electric variant can meet 97% of real-world driving needs. Optional equipment includes a 3.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power adapter, and an additional AC slow-charging port can be added on the opposite side of the vehicle. Future updates will enable Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality.
