At the "2026 World Power Battery Conference" held in Yibin, Sichuan on September 3, Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Group, revealed that Chery plans to begin vehicle integration validation of its all-solid-state batteries in 2027. Adhering to the principle of "pursuing multiple technological pathways simultaneously and never deploying any battery that isn't sufficiently safe," Chery has developed its "Rhino Battery" series, which includes three dedicated lines: hybrid-specific, pure-electric-specific, and solid-state-specific. The solid-state-specific cells have already achieved an energy density of 400 Wh/kg. A semi-solid (hybrid solid-liquid) version of the Rhino battery is scheduled for initial vehicle deployment in Q4 2026. To accelerate R&D progress, Chery plans to expand its dedicated solid-state battery team to over 1,200 personnel within the next two years and invest more than RMB 10 billion in cumulative specialized R&D funding.
