On August 7, 2024, Mr. Lu, a car owner from Hangzhou, sent his Tesla Model Y— which had traveled 94,000 kilometers—to the Tesla Service Center on Shenban Road in Hangzhou for repairs. When he picked up the vehicle three days later, he discovered multiple damages, including to the right rear door, right rear window glass, right rear triangular window, rear windshield, sunroof glass, and right rear fender, with glass fragments still remaining on the roof. Traffic police reviewed surveillance footage and confirmed that the damage occurred during the vehicle’s stay at the service center. Specifically, while the car was parked in the delivery waiting area, strong winds from a typhoon caused the door of a nearby fire hydrant cabinet to shatter and strike the vehicle. The service center admitted oversight in the handover process but explained that due to the vehicle’s height and heavy rainfall, the damage wasn’t immediately noticed. The center stated the car has been largely repaired and offered parts warranty coverage, along with a compensation offer of RMB 4,000 for depreciation loss. However, based on an appraisal from a used-car dealer, the owner believes the actual loss exceeds RMB 10,000. The two parties have yet to reach an agreement on the compensation amount.
