Geely is developing ultra-fast EV charging infrastructure capable of delivering up to 1,800 kW, reducing charging time to just five minutes. Yang Xiaoguang, Managing Director of Geely Automobile UK, stated on September 3 that all-solid-state batteries—a key component of this technology—are expected to be deployed in China within the next few months. Currently, some Zeekr models already support 600 kW charging, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in 10 minutes, and vehicles compatible with 900V ultra-fast charging are already on the road. Geely aims to increase its market share in the UK to 5% by 2030, equivalent to annual sales of approximately 100,000 vehicles—more than ten times its current level. To achieve this goal, Geely will prioritize the adoption of home wallbox chargers and collaborate with local charging operators to deploy ultra-high-power charging infrastructure. Its approach resembles BYD’s flash-charging technology, using on-site energy storage batteries at charging stations to deliver charging power exceeding 1,000 kW. In the future, Geely may also launch its own branded charging stations, open to all electric vehicles.
