IM Motors Claims Engineering Test Vehicle for "Steering Wheel-Free Car"

On September 9, IM Motors officially confirmed the previously revealed "steering wheel-less vehicle." The vehicle is an engineering test prototype developed using the same core technology as the all-new IM LS6, which is set for pre-sale launch on September 10. The vehicle employs a steer-by-wire system that eliminates the mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the wheels, enabling steering control via electrical signals. Control commands from the intelligent driving system are transmitted as electrical signals to actuators that drive the wheels to steer. According to data released by IM Motors, the execution time of its full steer-by-wire four-wheel steering system is approximately 20 milliseconds, compared to the typical human reflex response time of about 200 milliseconds. In terms of safety design, the system features dual power supplies, dual communication channels, and dual hardware backups. In the event of a dual failure in the front-wheel steering link, the system can engage a third layer of redundancy through rear-wheel steering to take over control and bring the vehicle to a safe stop. The entire system meets the automotive functional safety standard ASIL D, with a failure rate below 10 FIT (meaning one failure may occur per 100 million hours of continuous operation). The all-new IM LS6 will be unveiled for pre-sale on September 10, targeting the RMB 200,000-class SUV market and equipped with the "full steer-by-wire four-wheel steering" technology.
